[24.03.25 | #TheWell: Members' Bundle] ➡️ On being un-schooled by an outstanding manager + ⚡️ Mandarin Hobby course bookings now open for members!!

Greetings Reader,

Hope the week is off to a good start. Your usual bundle of good things going on and nuggets to ponder on is here.

This week, I am excited to have opened the Mandarin hobby course, starting next month. There are all kinds of methods behind my madness of scheduling this in the middle of a busy term.

The biggest reason is that I know hobbies are one of the first things to slip during the busiest times of year for teachers. Having something fun scheduled in means you can look back on that busy period and say: that course was the thing I did to take back my time and do something for my own joy.

Currently only members can book this in. More details below.

I am wishing you a great Spring break, if you've started already. This week may be the first time you can finally relax - hope it brings you deep rest and lots of space to catch up with yourself.

In the rest of this edition of your member bundle you'll receive:

  1. Your member only article
  2. Quotables
  3. Upcoming Events
  4. Humour Spot
  5. Liberation Corner
  6. *New* Bookings open - Mandarin Hobby Course
  7. Your membership spotlights

Wishing you a great week ahead,

Sumbella

1. ✏️ Member Only Article:

[#careers] 3 things that the best manager I have ever worked with un-schooled me on (and why I could never go back to working the same way again)

[Excerpt] I am sure we can all sift our career into different piles. For me, I can see three piles: -

  • bad management experiences
  • good management experiences
  • outstanding management experiences

I am so lucky to have worked with managers who fit into that third pile. I know now how rare it is, and I know many who have never really experienced working with a truly outstanding leadership team. I’ve been so fortunate to have done so.

In the spirit of paying this forward, I share here three things one of the said outstanding leaders taught me.

Their management style forever changed the way I work, the way I eventually started to manage people, and even the way I run and facilitate workshops, and teach my lessons.

Once I had been managed this way, there was no going back.

I couldn’t tolerate anything that wasn’t as good as it.

Here are things they said to me (and modelled themselves):

The Wrapper: March '25 Edition

We are coming to month-end and a break is on the way for many of us. But I will be, as always, doing a monthly wrapper to help consolidate the month ahead of the eid break, and would love to do this with you. RSVP here:

5. Liberation Corner

💡 Also, here is a 1 minute lesson I found helpful.

I share here a very good representation by a creator on Instagram of what it means to resist, and why it is important we all do whatever we feel able to, in literally ANY way possible:

6. 📣 Announcement

Our 7-week Mandarin hobby course starts in about 3 weeks from now on April 18th. Bookings are now open for members only! Before it goes out elsehwere or to those on the waitlist, the priority is for you to book if you wish to take part in this course.

This is going to be a programme that not only teaches you mastery of your first Chinese characters (yes, you'll actually learn to read and write the lingo), but also brings you a chance to connect and enjoy a fun and relaxing learning experience for you at what is otherwise very busy time of year.

There's some remarks and testimonials from our past students added on the page now, and more details on the cohort too, over at: https://www.wellteachers.org/hobby

If you're already decided that you're in - the link to join and book your spot on the cohort is now open and you can reserve it here. Otherwise, any questions just ping me a message.

7. 📌 Making the most of #TheWell

Many of you are finally off for a breather from the school routine this week. Here's a reminder of the good things you can catch up on and make use of with your membership:

  1. 1-1 calls: many of you are working through transitions - we can talk about your CVs, career direction, & next steps - book here
  2. The Well: this is the main spot where you can just hop on to start a chit-chat on a relevant topic of your choice. Do feel welcome to do so - this platform is yours to use.
  3. Get creative! Do you have an article or something helpful you might like to share with the group? Feel free to reach out - I can help you edit and prepare something to be posted.

Take care, be well, and speak soon,

All the best,

Sumbella

14.3.25 I hope March has been good for you so far. It's been a time of reflection and introspection here for me in Chitral. Some have gently prodded me to say that they haven't received an email in a while - and I'm glad they did. It's a foundational part of keeping in touch with you as someone who has shown interest in the work we are doing at Well Teachers on personal development and wellbeing. While most of my energy and focus has been on the members of The Well recently, I am working to...
